So here’s the thing about me, I don’t have a lot of role models. And that’s simply because I haven’t been fully inspired by anyone yet. I can be inspired by someone’s personality, heart, growth, career, mind, body and etc. But a role model for me stands for something extremely big. Because you need it all. In a way I could say I have loads of role models because I am inspired by a lot of people for different things.
But there is something about this one, Emily Weiss, Founder of Glossier, that had me at hello. It goes beyond her ambition and what she has managed to build. But I adore how outspoken and smart she is. How she connects with everyone she interviews, her followers on Instagram and I can then only imagine her friends and colleagues. I have never met her, so I actually don’t know what she is like in real person. But what I have heard and seen so far (which is pretty much everything on the internet that she appears in), she is so straight to the point. Well spoken. Professional. Bossy. and extremely arrogant when it comes to her brand - because she can be.
Unfortunately, everytime I mention her name in Sweden, no one knows who she is? Which is first of all weird. Not because you don’t know what Glossier is, but because it means you probably haven’t opened up an international news papper the past 1,5 years. Second of all, I think everyone could learn from her mentality. There is no victimhood in her what-so-ever. She is so dedicated and strong minded and she pursues everything she does with such grace and strong leadership. She’s not a lady boss, she’s a leader. A true and the first one (that I know of) in the past year or two that I think is owning it, in everything she does.
So my tip of the day - Google Emily Weiss and soak up all her smartness.
And also - She won the Webby Award (which is definitely the most prestigefull award in business there is) Entrepreneur of the Year. And she hands down actually deserves it.
